Gemstone Photography

Our gemstone photography
How we photograph and present gemstones at Gem-Fountain.
At Gem-Fountain, many of our customers purchase from abroad. For that reason, we place great emphasis on photography that is accurate, consistent, and transparent — so you can judge colour, cutting style, and natural characteristics as reliably as possible.
Photography standards
1. Colour and lighting
We photograph gemstones without artificial colour filters and avoid edits that would change the natural colour impression. Please note that gemstones can look different under different light sources. Daylight, warm indoor light, and various LED temperatures can shift the perceived hue and saturation.
Real-world examples
Screen differences: Colour can also vary depending on device and screen settings (brightness, calibration, colour profile). This is outside our control.
2. Magnification and visible inclusions
To show details clearly, we use high-resolution images and magnification. As a result, small stones can appear much larger on screen than in hand. This can make:
- Inclusions and internal structures appear more prominent.
- Minor surface features easier to see than under normal viewing conditions.
We consider this a benefit for buyers, as it provides a more transparent impression than "soft" or overly reduced images.
3. A balanced and honest presentation
Our goal is simple: show the gemstone beautifully without hiding its real character. That means:
- No artificial colour enhancement.
- No heavy smoothing or "perfecting" of inclusions.
- Accurate descriptions that match what you see.
